Abstract

Dynamic tracking of nano-objects via elastic light scattering has attracted significant attention particular in bioanalytics because of its unique capabilities for visualizing and unlocking highly relevant biological phenomena, such as molecular interactions [1] and virus trafficking [2]. To fully resolve the dynamic mobility of nanoscale objects in all three dimensions, methods based on piezo controlled objectives [3] and electrically tunable lenses [4] have been utilized. However, these methods involve complicated optical configuration and operational principles, which has limited their wide usage. Here, we show for the first time that using a purpose-designed microstructured graded index fibers (MGIFs) offers the capability to track nano-objects in all three spatial dimensions yielding an innovative approach that allows straightforward nano-object analysis.
