Second-harmonic generation from ZnO/Al2O3 laminate optical metamaterials grown by atomic-layer deposition

Abstract

We show how the second-order nonlinear optical properties of nanolaminates fabricated by atomic-layer deposition can be controlled and enhanced. An optimized metamaterial shows a second-order nonlinear susceptibility of χzzz(2) =4.47pm/V.
