Abstract
We present an investigation into the use of Raman spectroscopy for determining water temperature from Raman spectra for fresh and saltwater samples from various locations. The temperature-dependence of these spectra is evaluated, and methods based on linear regression are used to determine the accuracy with which water temperature can be determined from Raman spectral data. We also discuss the implications of our findings for near-real-time, depth-resolved temperature measurements in the field.
