Nonlinearity Tolerance of Tukey Signalling with Direct Detection

Abstract

We consider Tukey signalling with 50% duty-cycle between ISI-free and ISI-present intervals, and introduce trellis-based codebook design and decoding. The use of an integrate-and-dump detector equips the scheme with a high degree of robustness to nonlinear modulation distortion, making precise waveform shaping unnecessary.
