Abstract

Nanolasers with a single emitter as an active medium (an atom, an ion, or a quantum dot) [1-3] are nowadays very hot research topic due to their unusual properties compared to the conventional lasers. There is a controversy about the properties of nanolasers such as, for example, their threshold behavior. We have developed the quantum theory of the single-emitter nanolasers and obtained analytical results which allow for comparison of nanolasers with conventional lasers.
