Abstract

As precision optical spectroscopy is transitioning to real world applications, Hz-level cw reference lasers operable outside of research labs are becoming vital. However, the need for bulk cavity references to reach such a stability level is still a major limitation hampering progress. Here we demonstrate a major advance to overcome this obstacle by introducing ultra-low noise, long length, fiber Brillouin lasers with self-referenced temperature sensing to potentially achieve Hz level frequency stability in a compact form factor.
