Abstract
Wavefront-based refractive surgery is designed to reduce high order aberrations, but conventional laser surgery increases high order aberrations (HOAs). This study investigated whether reducing small errors occurring in different components of the surgery system would reduce HOAs. A simulator was constructed to model suspected error sources in Variable Spot and Flying Spot systems. Most error occurred in tracking and registration. Less error occurred in the Variable Spot system. System errors should be addressed in the design phase to reduce HOAs.
