Nonsequential double ionization: the simple man's S-matrix description

Abstract

Nonsequential double ionization of rare-gas atoms by a low-frequency high-intensity laser field is dominated by the recollision mechanism. The pertinent S-matrix diagram is identified and evaluated under various assumptions for the electron-electron interaction and compared with the data.
