Abstract
An ability for enhanced second optical harmonic generation in photonic crystals (PC) is shown via the numerical simulation of the light interactions with the PCs. Enhanced nonlinear light conversion in PC is based on the structural light focusing effect and, as a consequence, on the strong optical field localization within the certain PC regions. The highest optical field localization and highly efficient optical harmonic generation is associated with the PC band-gap pumping. The results of numerical simulations are verified with an experimental studying of the second optical harmonic generation in synthetic opal crystals infiltrated with NaNO2.
