Abstract
We present and demonstrate scattering-type near-field microscopy (s-SNOM) with circularly polarized illumination to map the chiral near-field distributions in metal nanostructures. We apply our technique to Archimedean spiral antennas and resolve circular polarization resolved nanofocusing of infrared light. Moreover, we near-field image single-layer chiral metasurfaces and connect the observed near-field response with circular dichroism in the far field. Our technique opens new ways of characterizing optical chirality in the near field of metal nanostructures which will be essential in the future development of chiral antennas and metasurfaces.
