Abstract

We describe a novel high frequency phase comparator based on large signal modulation of an integrated optic Mach-Zehnder interferometer. In this device two high frequency electrical signals are fed into the electrodes on the two channels of the Mach-Zehnder modulator. The phase difference of the two signals is measured by determining the optical intensity of the output of the modulator.
