Abstract
Progressive addition ophthalmic lenses (PALs), originally conceived in the 1950’s as a replacement for bifocals and trifocals, have become more readily feasible over the past few decades with the introduction of plastic lens materials, improved molding and casting techniques, computer-controlled machining (CNC), and improved mathematical formulations for the surface shape.
