Abstract
Guided mode resonance (GMR) filters engineer the interaction between an incident beam and a waveguide using a subwavelength corrugation. When a monochromatic beam is focused on such a structure, the phase shift as a function of angle of incidence shows remarkable characteristics. This can be applied to both phase and amplitude apodization in the pupil of an optical system, offering filtering options for systems without an easily accessible pupil.
