Abstract
We investigated the photonic band structure of a two dimensional (2D) circular photonic crystal (CPC) silicon membrane slab waveguide with surface coupling reflectivity (SCR) technique. Fano-like sharp resonance modes were found in the angle-resolved SCR spectra for both P- and S-polarized light. By extracting energies of the resonance modes as a function of incident angle, we determine the dispersion of the sample. For the rotational symmetry of the photonic band structure of the sample, we measure its SCR spectra as a function of azimuthal angles, from which we identified two P-polarized isotropic photonic bands, consistent with the circularly symmetrical structure of the waveguide structure reflected by the circular ring diffraction pattern from the structure.
