Optical Phase Conjugation with Surface Plasma Waves

Abstract

We have observed optical phase conjugation of a probe surface plasma wave, at a silver-dielectric interface, induced by two counterpropagating-pump surface plasma waves at the same frequency. All three surface waves were excited in the Kretschmann configuration. The conjugated surface wave is also coupled out as a bulk wave through the prism. The experiment was performed with 25 × 10−12-sec-long pulses at the second harmonic of a mode-locked Nd:YAG laser.
