Abstract
The technique of optical second harmonic generation (SHG) has been applied to a variety of studies of clean and adsorbate covered surfaces.1 We present recent results of a surface dynamical process investigated by means of surface SHG. Two different applications of the method are discussed: the thermal annealing of monolayer films of amorphous Si deposited on a well-defined crystalline Si surface and the desorption of an adsorbed dye monolayer induced by intense laser radiation.
