Abstract
Two-photon and two-step excitation in sodium vapor and inert gas buffers has been used obtain the elastic and inelastic collision kernels in strong collision region. This requires separating phase-shift collisional effects from velocity changing terms. A theory similar to that of Berman has been used with the data to obtain this separation and velocity-dependent broadening rates.
