Abstract
Recently, Tai et al.1 used InGaAs/InP multiple quantum wells (MQWs) to construct nonlinear optical Fabry-Perot devices for performing all-optical switching at the fiber communication wavelengths. These devices exhibit low-input energy requirements, large on/off contrast ratios (6 pJ for 5:1 contrast), large on-state transmissions (≈40%), and signal gains (≈2). However, the complexity due to the etalon and saturation effects prevented the accurate deduction of nonlinear coefficients and studies of their spectral dependence.
