Abstract
We report the first demonstration of subnatural linewidth spectroscopy which has brought a new physical result not obtainable by other methods. The hyperfine splittings of the 7Li2P3/2 → 2S1/2 transition, which have been normally masked within the natural linewidth, have been directly resolved for the first time, we believe, by the line narrowing technique of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectroscopy using a phase-switched laser. The hyperfine splittings of the 2P3/2 state have been accurately determined. A detailed description of this technique is described elsewhere.1
