Abstract
Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in singlemode fibers is the subject of current research because it is believed that it might limit the power levels that can be launched into fibers in future long-distance optical communication systems.1 Previous experiments have been reported on SBS suppression carried out by pumping a fiber with a laser operating in two longitudinal modes.2
