Abstract
We describe a two-photon resonant four-wave mixing process for efficient area scalable conversion of laser light to the vuv. By using three colinear unfocused input light beams (at wavelengths of 255, 405, and 777 nm), .a mixing efficiency for 130 nm generation of 5.5% and an energy of 0.8 mJ in two ns pulses is demonstrated. Because unfocused beams are used, energies will scale with area so much higher energies are possible. Further, the technique can be extended to produce light at other wavelengths in the range 120-140 nm with high efficiency, and the performance can be predicted with good accuracy.
