Coherence Between the Left and Right Output Beam of a Semiconductor Laser

Abstract

It is generally believed that the left and right output beam of a laser show perfect mutual coherence. However, this is not always true and we show here experimentally that in particular for a semiconductor laser more subtle considerations apply.
