Abstract

The spatial modes of axicon laser resonators (resonators containing a conical mirror[1-2]) have been found to have interesting properties that make them attractive candidates for materials working applications.[3-4] Useful axicon resonators fall into two groups, depending on whether the cone vertex angle α is close to 180° or close to 90°; both have been considered in the past. In this paper, we present a detailed theoretical analysis of the modes of a two-dimensional cavity consisting of a roof-top mirror with α near 90°, and a plane mirror (see Fig. 1).
