Abstract
The propagation and interactions of light in complex physical environments is of considerable theoretical and experimental interest as these processes govern the dynamics of spontaneous spatial pattern formation in nonlinear optical systems with a high degree of parallelism. In the work reported in this paper we present experimental results which clarify the key interactions in a system with competing optical nonlinearities.
