Abstract

In recent years, experiments have successfully confined increasing numbers of atoms in optical (magneto-optical) traps. As the density inside the trap increases, collisions between the cold atoms eventually become significant. This has been demonstrated in the experiments of Walker et al,[1] where large-scale collective effects were observed.
