Abstract

A novel cryptographic key sharing scheme[1] where EPR-Bohm type correlations are used to establish a random, but secret listing of numbers has recently been suggested. The security of the system is guaranteed by the fact that each bit is associated with detection of a single photon, the value to the bit being derived from a measurement of its polarisation. Photon pairs created in spin zero atomic cascades show strong non-local polarization correlations which would allow identical information to be measured at remote locations.
