Abstract
The structure of laser diodes with a very short cavity gives rise to the peculiar nonlinear optical processes. Optical chaos and in particular the universal transitions to chaotic regimes have been investigated as function of the external feedback. In the simple configuration of delayed feedback from an external cavity mirror, the characteristic low frequency fluctuations (LFF) are originated in the operation at moderate feedback regime. LFF manifest as low frequency resonances in the intensity noise spectrum, as experimentally investigated,[1-3] and pointed out in the theoretical interpretation of noise-induced switching in a bistable optical system.[4]
