Abstract
Recently, Knox et al found that the bleaching effect of excitons on excitons is stronger than that of the same density of “warm” free carriers in GaAs MQW’s.[1] This behaviour is qualitatively well explained by a theory of Schmitt-Rink et al in which only the effects of the Pauli exclusion principle (phase space filling and exchange interaction) are considered for the bleaching of excitons by both excitons and free e-h pairs, assuming that the long range Coulomb screening is very weak in quasi-2D quantum wells.[2]
