Abstract
The broadband, near infrared emission of crystals doped with Ni2 + ions in octahedral sites can be utilized for tunable lasers.1 We have searched for new Ni2+-doped laser crystals,2 and report here the laser operation of the garnet Ni2+:Cd3Ga5O13. Laser operation of another garnet (CAMGAR) has previously been reported by Moulton.3 For the laser experiments a crystal with the dimensions of 1 × 1 × 3 cm3 and a Ni2+-concentration of 8.1 × 101y cm−3 was used.
