Abstract
Low pulse to pulse timing jitter is increasingly required for improved temporal resolution in optical sampling systems and reduced error rates in high capacity fibre communications systems. Mode-locked diode lasers are excellent candidates for generating high stability picosecond optical pulse trains at multi-gigahertz rates.
