Abstract
A cw diode laser (wavelength 808 nm and power 91 mW), coupled with an optical fibre (core diameter 100 μm), was used with strips of solid protein solder to repair tibial and dental nerves in Wistar rats. The solder was a solid protein mixture, containing the dye Indocyanine Cardio Green (ICG) to absorb the I.R. radiation[1]. The two nerve stumps were adjusted end to end and the protein strips were applied across the nerve junction (anastomotic site) as shown in fig. 1. The laser radiation was then used to fuse the protein solder with the outer membrane of the nerve (perineurium), joining the nerve edges.
