Abstract

Recent progresses in solving the coupled equations describing χ(2) parametric waveguides have revealed rich families of simulton solutions [1-9]. These simulton solutions can be cast into four different categories according to the signs of dispersion and phase mismatching [3,10]. In one case, when the signs of dispersions and phase mismatching are all positive, there exists a family of fundamental general bright simulton solutions of a nontopological nature [3,10,7], It is interesting to note that there also exist families of higher order multiple-peak simultons [3], All the bright simultons have very complex and interesting stability properties. Stability condition has been recently derived in Ref. [11], and it was found that, near the instability threshold, simultons may become unstable and the instability leads to either in-phase oscillations or decay in the unstable area.
