Abstract
Dispersion-management of solitons [1-2] has recently become a suitable option for the design of ultrahigh bit rate communication systems Such dispersion managed systems are capable of operating near zero average dispersion, thus reducing the Gordon-Haus jitter [3] which otherwise limits the performance of long-distance soliton-based systems and present reduced interaction between adjacent pulses [4,5] In a recent paper [6] we showed that multisoliton pulses could be generated in systems in which non-ideal fibre Bragg gratings were used for dispersion management These multisoliton solutions present shorter distances between neighbouring peaks than the usual for solitonic systems and are able to propagate through decades of megameters, thus being promising candidates for long-haul communications with ultra-high bit rate
