Abstract
To avoid disadvantages of conventional volume hologram in a holographic memory, a shift-multiplexed surface holographic memory was proposed, and its memory characteristics were evaluated. Compared to Blu-ray disk, which is also a two-dimensional recording medium, it was shown that overwhelming data transfer rate can be expected, and fabrication accuracy of at least four times the spatial resolution for the maximum spatial frequency contained in the holograms and four or more levels of modulation can be sufficient to reconstruct the signal.
