Abstract
The application of laser sources to various areas of the natural sciences has had tremendous impact on the experimental methodology of the various disciplines. One of the areas most profoundly impacted has been analytical chemistry. For example, laser sources have provided the means for single atom detection, remote sensing of trace elements over large distances, and high sensistivity 2-dimensional mapping of free radical species in flames. For the most part these experimental techniques would not be possible without the laser sources.
