Abstract
We have been developing a compact frequency standard based on cold cesium atoms. The atoms are cooled, interrogated during a free expansion and then detected inside a cylindrical microwave cavity. The operation of this experiment is different from conventional cold atoms fountains, since all the steps are sequentially performed in the same place.
