Abstract
We outline the derivation of a new theoretical model for the reflectivity of a monolayer of large and tenuous particles supported by a flat substrate at small angles of incidence. The particles are assumed to be homogeneous and surrounded by a non-absorbing fluid. The present model can be used to analyze the reflectivity of biofilms consisting of a sparse distribution of cells on a flat surface.
