Abstract
The particle referred to as the Higgs boson has been a centerpiece of the Standard Model of elementary particle physics ever since it was theoretically proposed almost 50 years ago. The history of the Higgs boson and the recent observations by the ATLAS and CMS experiments will be reviewed.
