Abstract
A novel technique for range sensing has been described and demonstrated by Chavel and Strand [1] and Leger and Snyder [2]. While many other range sensing systems have been reported [3], this technique has the nearly unique advantage of detecting range over an entire image in real time (TV frame rates). This makes it particularly advantageous for use in many machine vision applications, e.g., industrial inspection and automated assembly.
