Abstract
Blue sources based on quasi-phasematched (QPM) second harmonic generation (SHG) of diode laser radiation in waveguides are presently developed. The segmented KTiOPO4 (KTP) waveguide [1] is an attractive waveguide choice for which very high conversion efficiency numbers have been reported for SHG to blue light around 425 nm. Eger et al. have obtained normalized efficiencies of ηnorm= 800%W-1cm-2 [2] and Bierlein et al. [3] have occasionally seen SHG signals corresponding to normalized efficiencies higher than 1000%W-1cm-2.
