Abstract
Diode laser arrays which possess lateral asymmetry in the gain have been shown to radiate into a single off-axis lobe in the far field. This effect has been ascribed to tilted phase fronts induced by the gain variation.1 Recent experiments indicate that a similar effect may be produced by injection of an external beam into one of the outside stripes. In this case, the single-lobed pattern is assumed to be due to the gain imbalance resulting from the injection. In this paper we report the numerical simulation of the injection locking of a five-stripe gain-guided diode laser array which predicts the above observations as well as changes in the far-field emission pattern which result from scanning the injection frequency. Our numerical calculations provide a useful tool for the understanding of mode control in injection-locked diode laser arrays.
