Abstract
Recent advances in high power diode lasers provide an alternative optical source for pumping solid-state lasers. There are at least three distinctive advantages to using a semiconductor laser diode: (1) The ideal match of the absorption wave-length results in a high pumping efficiency. (2) It eliminates the cooling system which causes unstable power output. (3) It reduces the physical size of the system.
