Abstract
Threshold-vs-duration curves for achromatic and chromatic thresholds were measured in the dark-adapted state and on a large bright white background. Observers viewed a continuous green (546-nm) stimulus field fixed at a luminance level slightly above threshold in both adaptation conditions so that it had little effect on the adaptation state of the observer. The stimulus field was either 10 or 75 min in diameter. Either the brightness or the color of the field could be changed briefly.
