Abstract
The electromagnetic inverse scattering problem is concerned with reconstructing a scattering medium based on remotely obtained scattered data. Here we assess inverse scattering techniques applied to waveguides with imperfect boundaries. The fundamental difficulties for applying inverse techniques to optical waveguides arise from the fact that waveguides allow only eigenmodes to propagate.
