Abstract

An optical wave propagating through a random medium with a finite inner scale of turbulence can lead to larger values of the scintillation index than observed when the inner scale is vanishingly small. Calculated values of the refractive-index structure parameter Cn2 based on a direct short path measurement of the scintillation index need to be adjusted for nonzero inner scales. Analytic expressions for this correction factor are now available for both plane waves1 and spherical waves (not yet published).
