Abstract

In an earlier paper we proposed to integrate optical components on single substrates using planar fabrication techniques.1 The motivation for this proposal was to alleviate the tight alignment tolerances required to build an optical computer. An integrated optical array generator was fabricated to demonstrate this idea. It consists of two components, a phase grating and a diffractive lens, incorporated on one side of a planar quartz glass substrate.
