Single-stage optical binary full-adder

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A straightforward optical binary full-adder implementation can be achieved through a cascade of several two-variable optical logic elements. However, the use of cascaded optical elements introduces additional problems such as signal energy loss and speed reduction. A bistable etalon based single-stage binary full adder was proposed. This scheme, however, is an analog scheme that could suffer from an inherent large error rate.
