Abstract
By using a rigorous modal approach, we study 2-D TE polarized, plane wave scattering phenomena in volume holographic multiplexed gratings. This approach enables various crosstalk effects to be categorized for applications using weighted optical interconnections. In particular, we have examined the small diffraction efficiency region where independent interconnections are feasible. The crosstalk behavior has been evaluated for a variety of parameters, such as the diffraction efficiency, the modulation index, the thickness of the hologram, and the angular separation between the gratings. Differences between the various crosstalk categories can be explained qualitatively by considering diffraction effects due to a single grating.
