Abstract
The development of agile laser filter is of increasing importance because of the expanding use of tunable lasers in the battlefield. Device requirements include broad bandwidth, near-instantaneous response, and high transmittance at low intensities. Implementation as an ocular protection device imposes additional requirements for field of view coverage and high photopic efficiency for incoherent light. Recently, we have been investigating the suitability of self-induced Bragg grating configurations using third-order Kerr-type polymers and photoinduced nonlinear absorbers. The investigation included the development of methods to avoid coupled-wave phase mismatching to improve the device effectiveness. Numerical results based on theoretical coupled-wave analysis indicate strong attenuation of the transmitted laser radiation.
