Abstract
New singlet and triplet Rydberg states of the imidogen radical in the energy range 10–12 eV (measured relative to the ground electronic state) have been identified via the two photon resonance enhancements they provide to the multiphoton ionization spectra of both NH and ND. Spectral assignment has been aided by measurements of (i) the fragmentation pattern of the resulting ions and (ii) the kinetic energies of the associated photoelectrons. Rotational analysis yields detailed spectroscopic constants for these various excited states and reveals a number of textbook examples of perturbations arising from two (and three) state interactions.
